| Purpose |

The State Issues Committee shall be responsible for developing and communicating positions on behalf of the Association relative to State issues.
|
|
| |
| Duties |
| |
|
|
| |
The State Issues Committee shall:
1. Take a leadership role in identifying, addressing, analyzing and clarifying legislative, regulatory, and funding issues.
2. Establish contacts with key individuals and state organizations that can provide information and clarification on legislative/regulatory issues. This would include agencies like Family Independence Agency, Michigan Rehabilitation Services, etc.
3. Serve as a mechanism by which the Association communicates concerns relative to state issues (critical legislation, testifying at hearings, etc.).
4. Collect and disseminate information, concerns and opinions regarding State legislative and appropriation issues.
5. Review State budgets and legislative issues and prepare appropriate responses on behalf of the Association.
6. Provide information to the membership via the Association’s webpage.
7. Attend bi-monthly Michigan Higher Education Assistance Authority (MHEAA) and report to the full Board of Directors.
8. The State Issues Committee shall inform the board of positions developed on behalf of the Association.
9. Foster positive relationships with various agencies that provide funding for students. Review agency services, rules, regulations, and procedures annually. Update and coordinate the printing of the MSFAA Helpline. |

| Membership |

The President will appoint a Chair (or Co-Chairs) for the Committee from the MSFAA membership. The Chair(s) will be responsible for selecting additional members, if needed, from MSFAA member institutions. The elected Sector Representatives and/or their designees are expected to attend the State Issues Committee meetings; also directors from the state agencies or their designees should participate. |
